Meet the British (BBC4)
This, which I watched last night, was a collection of weird promotional films made by the British government between the end of the war and 1980s. I think the films were supposed to entice people to come and live here, so they tried to show off British innovations and fashion and stuff like that, and it is quite interesting while also being pretty funny.
What I always enjoy in these kind of shows is when they do speculations of the future, and there were a couple of funny ones in this. I especially liked a drawing someone had made of these futuristic sci-fi style domes that the people of the year 2000 would be living in.
Altogether good stuff. The Harry Enfield style clip above isn’t that great, but it’s the only clip I could find, there’s a lot more colour in the full thing which is always welcome. I’d recommend a view on the iPlayer if you have an hour to kill.
